Unspoken But Understood

Commissioned by Baerenzwinger Berlin’s exhibition “Politics of Being Heard” curated by Janine Pauleck

Unspoken But Understood sits in the space between silence and recognition. A phrase enclosed in parentheses offers itself not as a statement, but as a gesture—tentative, open, and quietly held.

The work draws inspiration from Mia Mingus’s writing on access intimacy: a form of connection grounded not in explanation, but in shared understanding. It reflects on how care can emerge through presence, through attention, through making room for another’s way of being in the world.
